The Center for Computer-Assisted Legal Instruction (CALI):  https://www.cali.org/

CALI is a non-profit consortium of mostly US law schools that conducts applied research and development in the area of computer-mediated legal education.  The site is open to students at membership organizations.  Be sure to ask your school for the site access code!

Conducts surveys of junior law associates in order to provide a clear view of the working lives of junior associates. Offers profiles of major law firms which are updated annually, and reports on the legal industry.

FindLaw for Law Students offers sample study schedules, course outlines and exams, as well as access to legal research tools.  FindLaw’s “What the L?” newsletter provides articles and blog posts, as well as job postings for legal internships and summer associate positions.

Firsthand/Vault Law provides law firm profiles and rankings and practice area overviews, along with career advice, and tips on how to succeed in law school.  Of note is the section on alternative legal careers providing articles on lawyers who have developed careers outside of the legal field.

Offers news, publications, reports, surveys and other information.  Includes The American Lawyer magazine.  The podcast, LegalSpeak, discusses issues of interest to the legal profession.

 

Law School Admissions Council (LSAC): https://www.lsac.org/

Provides resources and information geared toward pre-law, JD and LLM candidates.  LSAC partners with Khan Academy to provide free LSAT prep services.  LSAC’s mission also includes providing research and data on law schools and the legal profession.

Essentially a for-profit tutoring service, their website offers a variety of free content through both a podcast and blog which discuss all aspects of the bar and legal exams, as well as self-care during the law school process.  Of particular note, the website includes a section titled, “I Failed”, which provides advice, encouragement and support to those who failed the bar exam.

A for-profit tutoring service which provides free tools and resources (webinars, downloads and newsletter) to law students on its website.  In addition, it provides academic support to Sponsors for Educational Opportunity Law (SEO).

An online directory of attorneys and law firms searchable by geographic area, practice area and law school. 

 

Ms. JD:  https://ms-jd.org/

A nonprofit, nonpartisan organization dedicated to the success of law students and early career women lawyers. Ms. JD is governed by a volunteer Board of Directors comprised of law students and recent graduates and supported by a small group of independent contractors.

Among the programs found here are Writers In Residence, Ms. JD Fellowship, Law Student Leadership Academy, Pre-Law Bootcamp and Law School Fair, Global Education Fund, Of particular note are their Public Interest Scholarships which awards stipends to students pursuing careers in public interest law; and their Determined to Rise program for middle school girls.

 

National Association of Law Placement (NALP):   https://www.nalp.org/

A resource for information on legal employment and recruiting, as well as career planning. This website includes a directory of legal employers.  Listings of various conferences and summits can be found here as well.  Their communities provide networking and information sharing opportunities.

Of note is their partnership with Street Law which partners law firms with diverse groups of high school students. The goal is to teach the students about the law and legal careers, encourage them to pursue legal careers, and offer support in that pursuit.

Public Legal describes itself as “a socially motivated website that provides information about the law while respecting your rights and privacy.”  The website consists of “categorized lists of select websites, as well as thousands of legal forms and documents.”

A non-profit organization offering the SEO Law Fellowship Program and SEO Law Catalyst, through which underrepresented law students receive access to critical educational, career development, and internship opportunities that help them succeed in the legal profession.  SEO Law Fellowships offer the opportunity for paid internships during the summer prior to law school.
