Got Health Insurance and Don’t Make Time for Annual Exams? 5 Appointments to Keep in 2021

by | Apr 6, 2021 | Features, fitness, Life

Having access to healthcare is essential for you to live a healthy life. The only issue is many people tend to overlook check-ups and appointments because they don’t feel sick. What’s more is they have access to healthcare services, but don’t use it unless there is an emergency.

As a busy professional, it can be challenging to find time to schedule and attend your doctor’s appointments. After all, your work schedule is probably hectic during the pandemic.

Other reasons you may be missing out on annual exams are:

Whether you make your appointments online or by telephone, it is easy to schedule your next doctor’s visit. Here are 5 appointments to keep in 2021.

1. Dental Visits

Dental check-ups are the number one doctor’s appointments that most people ignore. Because they don’t have symptoms, they assume nothing is wrong with their oral hygiene.

Even if you have tooth decay, you may not notice symptoms until you need a root canal or tooth extraction. That’s why it is important to schedule a routine dental appointment with your dentist every 6 months.

Benefits of regular dental check-ups include:

  • Prevent Major Dental Issues
  • Save Your Teeth
  • Maintain Proper Oral Hygiene
  • Treat Bad Breath
  • Screen for Oral Cancer
  • Prevent Gum Disease

2. Physical Therapy

When you engage in regular physical exercise, you can sustain minor injuries that can worsen over time. It’s easy to assume pains will go away on their own. However, some injuries may require physical therapy. That’s why you should schedule a doctor’s appointment to have any aches and pains checked out.

Physical therapy can help your body recover from injuries. Not only can aches and pains affect your work, but they can also impact your lifestyle. Benefits of physical therapy include avoid surgery, improve mobility, recover from injuries and manage diabetes.

3. Annual Screenings

You probably know this one already. But it’s worth mentioning that health screenings should be done at intervals throughout the year. Annual screenings such as mammograms, colonoscopies, Pap tests and blood tests should be scheduled without delay.

If you have a medical condition, attending your doctor’s appointments can prevent other health conditions and detect new problems. Even if you manage to avoid other appointments this year, screenings and follow-ups should be at the top of your To-Do list.

4. Psychotherapy

Going to a therapist can come in handy throughout the year. In these challenging times, the chances that you’ll experience work-related stress and emotional issues are relatively high. This is true even if you are happy with your job.

To avoid burnout or loss of enthusiasm, it’s a good idea to make an appointment with your therapist throughout the year. Even if you don’t think you have severe emotional trauma, therapy can be a tool to keep you mentally fit. Neglecting your mental health can affect your overall well-being.

5. Vaccinations

Vaccinations aren’t just for children. There are specific vaccines that you should include in your health regimen to boost your immunity against certain diseases. Due to the pandemic, vaccines have become more necessary than ever. Flu, Shingles, COVID-19 and Pneumococcal vaccines can protect you from serious conditions.
